Buying Australian made products supports jobs and encourages prosperity in local communities. This has a positive flow on effect to families and communities. Purchasing Australian made also helps reduce carbon miles - the emission related to transporting goods.
Buying is bulk not only saves you money, it also helps reduce the amount of packaging used saving precious energy and resources.
All of our products that are labelled organic have been independently certified as such by ACO Certification Ltd or an equivalent independent organisation. To be certified organic, a product must be produced without synthetic chemicals, fertilisers or pesticides, they must be GMO (genetically modified organism) -free.
When you see the certification number and logo you know that there is a seamless chain of information following every step in the life of the product – from the farm to you.
Organic certification bodies such as ACO have strict regulations and rigorous site audits to ensure companies are supplying consistent quality certified organic products at all times. ACO also maintains conformance with all leading organic standards across the world.
Organic certified products can be more expensive, however this represents the true cost of growing high quality, chemical free products. Organic farming is often done on a much smaller scale and utilises farm management practices which do not harm the environment and wildlife.
COSMOS stands for COSMetics Organic and Natural Standard. COSMOS standard is the result of a harmonization effort conducted by five leading European certification bodies: BDHI (Germany), Cosmebio (France), Ecocert (France), ICEA (Italy) and Soil Association (UK) with the aim to create a global Organic and Natural Cosmetics Standard. It ensures raw materials are natural and organically grown and products are manufactured according to strict environmental guidelines. While skin care and cosmetics ingredients lists can sometimes read like a foreign language, COSMOS certification assures you that there's no nasties and quality is of the highest standard.
There's just no reason any company should be testing their product on animals. Nada. None. Zilch. None of the product and none of the ingredients in any of the products in our store have been tested on animals.

While plastic free is certainly the better option, we commend brand that are making the effort to transition their packaging away from plastic. Most of the items in our Minimal Plastic section are packaged in a glass container with a plastic lid.
Palm Oil Free
We're not against palm oil per se, but we are very much against deforestation for palm oil plantations. Unfortunately even with RSPO certification it's incredibly hard to determine whether the palm oil was produced sustainably. For this reason we've decided to exclude and products containing palm oil or palm oil derivatives from our store. For more info please see our FAQs.
Scientists estimate there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050. Plastic manufacturing uses fossil fuels. Every piece of plastic ever made still exists. Very little plastic is actually recycled - only around 9% (Source: Plastic Free July) and even so, recycling is far from a perfect system. Common plastic additives can be harmful to humans. Plastic pollution is an environmental disaster. There are so many healthier, less polluting, more environmentally friendly alternatives to plastic.
It's estimated that Australians throw away 1 BILLION coffee cups every year. We use approximately 3 BILLION plastic straws each year. MILLIONS of disposable razors go to landfill each year. That's over 4 BILLION pieces of plastic going to landfill each year to essentially never break down. Purchasing reusable products like coffee cups , stainless steel straws and safety razors helps reduce the amount of plastic ending up in landfill and saves a huge amount of energy and resources in not producing literally billions of throw away items. Our 'throw-away/disposable' culture is using more of the Earth's resources than it can afford to give us. Purchasing reusable items might not be good for big business but it sure is better for the Earth.
Nuff said. Having said that we don't just stock any ole small business. They still need to fit in with our strict ingredients and ethics guidelines.
Love of animals and their rights is a huge reason behind veganism. It's also a lot better for the world. Animal products require large amounts of resources to produce - land for agriculture, and to grow grain crops for feed, additional water etc. Almost all of our products are vegetarian and a large amount are also vegan. Beeswax and a small amount of goat's milk in some some soaps is about the extent of the animal products you'll find here.
The more things we can prevent from going to landfill the better. Why you ask? Australian landfills receive around 20 MILLION TONNES of waste each year (Source: environment.gov.au). As landfill contents break down, methane and carbon dioxide are produced, contributing to climate change. The more we can prevent things from going to landfill, the more we can prevent the unncessary creation of these greenhouse gases, the better chance the world has. Zero waste is about reforming our current linear system of taking the earth's resources, using them momentarily and then dumping them in a whole in the ground. When you purchase a product you're paying for the package too. Purchasing the product without the waste is not only better for the environment, it's better for your bank balance too!
